Manufactured from highly compacted polystyrene, incorporating a substantial weighting mechanism for stability, Ice Guard is a hollow device which sits on your pond’s surface with its lower, tube-like part seated permanently below the surface. The insulating properties of the polystyrene keep the warmer water, beneath the ice, above freezing temperature inside the device, maintaining a permanent escape route for noxious gases to escape to the atmosphere.

Prolonged periods of hot, dry weather can also have a detrimental effect on your pond life, thickening the water’s surface tension, making it difficult for gases to escape. In these circumstances, Ice Guard effectively reduces surface tension, helping to keep your pond’s environment clear and healthy.

During trials, we found that frogs were particularly drawn to the device, setting up colonies inside it, where they flourished all year round. Ice Guard provides them with a ready made home, which they keenly inhabit.

If you do not want frogs to colonise your pond, a net placed over the bottom of Ice Guard will solve your problem.
